Its main purpose is to raise public’s awareness of the importance of savings both for modern economies and for normal people. The holiday was set up on 31 st of October, 1924 during the 1 st International Savings Bank Congress in Milano, Italy. It originally was established to inform populace about the idea of saving their money, rather than keeping it at home. With its signing, UN officially came into being. The holiday was set up in 1948, and replaced the original United Nations Day, which was initially a set of military parades to boost Allies’ soldiers’ morale during World War II, and later a celebration of victory in said war. Additionally, this day has a different theme each year. In 2020, it is “The future we want, the United Nations we need: reaffirming our collective commitment to multilateralism”. The landing of a plane was preceded by its hijacking on 13 th of October by four terrorists belonging to Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and its flight all across the Middle East and part of Northern and Eastern Africa, where they were always refused landing permissions, and with quickly deteriorating reserves of fuel, eventually forced to land in Mogadishu, Somalia. There began negotiations with the hijackers, who demanded release of some of their comrades imprisoned in Germany and Turkey in exchange for freeing the plane. Its overall objective is, as the name suggests,   to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world, and mobilize efforts to support mental health care in many countries. It provides an opportunity for all mental healthcare workers to talk about their work, and what needs to be done for the quality of mental healthcare to increase worldwide. It was firstly observed on 10 th of October, 1992, and officially set up as an annual activity of World Federation for Mental Health by the then Deputy Secretary General Richard Hunter. For the first 3 years, it had no specific theme, and was only celebrated by a two-hour telecast broadcast globally. It was triggered by slow decay of communist regimes in Eastern and Central Europe, which in turn were caused by constant changes in USSR’s party’s core politicians.
