On 3rd of October, 1990,
West and East Germany were officially united as one country, which is still to
this day one of the most important events in history of not only Europe, but
also the entire world.
It was triggered by slow decay of communist regimes in
Eastern and Central Europe, which in turn were caused by constant changes in
USSR’s party’s core politicians. Many of the “younger” generation of communists
were rising to power, and with them the desire of general populace for liberal
changes in the system.
In East Germany, civil unrest was great, and “younger”
generation of communists rose to power. They eventually allowed free travel
between East and West Germany, and thus the Iron Curtain was officially dismantled.
Multiparty elections were held, and communists suffered a crushing defeat.
Later this year, negotiations for a treaty for unification began, and monetary union between the two countries was signed. The negotiations ended, and on 3rd of October, 1990, both Germany’s were fused into Federal Republic of Germany.
An important day indeed in the MODERN history of Europe.
OdpowiedzUsuńAs a conscious witness of those processes, I'm not sure I can quite agree with some of the causes and interpretations you talk about.
Well for the sake of keeping this short, I made some significant simplifications, and thus probably got some cases not entirely right, or even completely wrong, but it wasn't really possible, at least in my opinion, to go over all the important things in detail, simply because there was so many of them.
