On 29th
of November, International Day of Solidarity with Palestinians is observed. Its
main purpose is to focus public opinion’s attention on yet unresolved Palestine
issue, specifically the right to have their own, sovereign country.
It was
officially set up in 1979. 29th of November was chosen because of
its meaning and significance for Palestinian people. On that day in 1947
General Assembly adopted a resolution which provided for establishment of two
independent states in Palestine – “Jewish State” and “Arab State”. From these
two, only the first one has so far come into being, in a form of country of
Israel.
In response to this holiday, various activities are undertaken by many governments. These include issuance of special messages of solidarity with Palestinian people, organizing meetings on the topic and screenings of films concerning the subject. UN will also organize a special exhibition this year, showcasing support which various artists lend to Palestinian people through music, paint and canvas or even street walls, and many more.
Isn't it blatant hypocrisy to have a Day of Solidarity with Palestinians and at the same time call them terrorists because they want their own state? This whole issue is a shame for the international community.
