A past event - 17/18th of October

On 17th of October,1977, hijacked Lufthansa 181 flight landed in Mogadishu, Somalia, and was stormed by West-German counter-terrorist commando group GSG-9 later that night.

The landing of a plane was preceded by its hijacking on 13th of October by four terrorists belonging to Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and its flight all across the Middle East and part of Northern and Eastern Africa, where they were always refused landing permissions, and with quickly deteriorating reserves of fuel, eventually forced to land in Mogadishu, Somalia.

There began negotiations with the hijackers, who demanded release of some of their comrades imprisoned in Germany and Turkey in exchange for freeing the plane. German government sent a fake message to the terrorists, that they agreed to their terms, and that prisoners were already enroute. In the meantime, German counter-terrorist group GSG-9 landed in Mogadishu with blacked-out lights to avoid detection.

To distract hijackers from the incoming assault, Somali soldiers lit a huge bonfire in front of the cockpit. When terrorists were investigating the fire, six assault groups approach tail of the plane, and using silenced- and blacked-out ladders, climbed to the wings’ emergency doors from both sides. After opening the doors, commandos yelled in German for the passengers to get on the ground, and began shooting at the terrorists. Four hijackers were killed, and fifth one was wounded and disarmed. One commando and four passengers were slightly wounded.

    Those were the days when terrorists hijacked planes to demand something, not to just blow them up.
    People tend to forget that in the 1970s Europe was overflowing with violent terrorist groups: IRA, ETA, the Baader–Meinhof Group and many others. Politicians were kidnapped and assassinated, like Aldo Moro in Italy or Olof Palme in Sweden.

Quantum immortality

Quantum immortality theory comes from a thought experiment published in 1987 by Hans Moravec and in 1988 by Bruno Marchal. The experiment proposes the same setup as the famous Schrödinger’s Cat experiment, with the change that you are both the subject and the observer. Alcubierre drive

Alcubierre drive, more widely known as warp drive, is yet another scientific concept originating from Einstein’s theory of relativity. Its purpose would be to allow travel faster than light for any object equipped with such technology. Its name comes from scientist Miguel Alcubierre, who published a paper, explaining how such theoretical warp drive could work. It is well known that no known object is capable of travelling faster than the speed of light. This is bypassed by forming a warped bubble of space around the object, essentially forming a separate “universe”, in which travel faster than light is possible. The only problem is that in order to form this bubble you would need a large quantity of a material with negative mass, and all known matter has positive mass.
