On 24th
of October, United Nations Day is celebrated internationally. It marks the
anniversary of the entry of the UN Charter into force. With its signing, UN
officially came into being.
The holiday
was set up in 1948, and replaced the original United Nations Day, which was initially
a set of military parades to boost Allies’ soldiers’ morale during World War II,
and later a celebration of victory in said war.
Additionally,
this day has a different theme each year. In 2020, it is “The future we want, the
United Nations we need: reaffirming our collective commitment to multilateralism”.
This year, due to coronavirus pandemic, the UN annual concert was pre-recorded and screened in General Assembly Hall in United Nation’s headquarters in NYC on 22nd of October. On 24th of October, more than 250 monuments, bridges and other landmarks of huge cultural, historical and political significance from 150 cities in 21 European countries were lit up blues, which is the official colour of UN.
Did we celebrate it in Poland too? Was any building lit up?
OdpowiedzUsuńWe celebrated this holiday in Poland too, but according to the sources I found, no buildings in Poland were lit up blue.
