This week's news - April 17th
The Covid-19 lockdown has produced the quietest year for the world’s oceans in recent memory, according to a group of scientists working on a global map of underwater soundscapes. Noise pollution from ship engines, trawling activities, oil platforms. Subsea mining and other human sources declined significantly last spring.
In my opinion,
even though that the Covid-19 pandemic is overall bad for us as humans, it is really
beneficial to some types of animals, especially sea animals. It is really good
to hear that for the first time in many years, the noise pollution, even in
water, has started to decrease, even if just temporarily. It will still allow
animals to have at least a little bit more peace then previously, and maybe
allow them to repopulate some of the previously abandoned by them areas due to
the noise pollution. It’s just extremely good to hear some good news like this
in these dire times.
