The idea of organising a campaign which main goal was to convince general public of the importance of learning new languages was born in 1997. European Day of Languages (EDL) was firstly celebrated in 2001, which was the European Year of Languages. After the end of this project, the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers decided to set up both of these holidays as permanent and celebrated on 26 th of September. An unknown holiday - 19th of September

From this day onward, I will be writing about a holiday OR a past event, simply because of the fact that 150 words is not much space, and definitely not as much to describe some things as I would like. The information if it will be a holiday or a past event this week will be in the title, but from my experience I can already say that I will most likely be writing more about unknown holidays, because they are simply more interesting. It's origin goes back to the year 2007, when it was firstly celebrated to honour programmers across the world. For some time, it was set on 7 th of January, until it was changed to be held on the 256 th day of the year. This is a number of distinct values that can be represented within an 8-bit byte, and 256 is the highest power of 2 that is less than 365, the number of days in a year. On this day, programmers greet themselves on various forums and social media by words “Happy Programmers’ Day”, and sometimes organize special events related to this holiday, It’s worth noting, that it was recognized as a public holiday in Russia in 2009. A past event that took place on 12 th of September was a Battle of Marathon, when combined Greek ...

My project for this year

This year, I will be doing a calendar, where each week I will write about one of the holidays that happened last week, and recall an important event from the past, and also describe it shortly.
