Its main purpose is to focus public opinion’s attention on yet unresolved Palestine issue, specifically the right to have their own, sovereign country. It was officially set up in 1979. 29 th of November was chosen because of its meaning and significance for Palestinian people. On that day in 1947 General Assembly adopted a resolution which provided for establishment of two independent states in Palestine – “Jewish State” and “Arab State”. Its goal is, as usually is with these kinds of holidays, to raise awareness about importance of confronting diabetes as a critical global health issue. It was created in 1991 by International Diabetes Federation and World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes. It became an official UN holiday in 2006. The date of the holiday was chosen in order to commemorate Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin in 1922, and whose birthday is on 14 th of November. Each year’s celebrations also has a specific theme tied to it, and in 2020 it is “The Nurse and Diabetes”. Its purpose is to acknowledge and celebrate Inuit way of life, vulture, history, and the impact they have on subarctic countries. It was established in 2006 by Inuit Circumpolar Council general assembly. The date of 7 th of November was selected to commemorate the birthday of the founder of ICC, Eben Hobson, and memorialize him every year. Different organizations celebrate International Inuit Day in different ways each year. For example, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, which is Canada’s national Inuit organization, celebrates this holiday by sharing videos on their social media from their Inuit Nunangat Taimannganit video storytelling project, which tells the story of Inuit homeland in Canada.
